Loxodrome


Loxodrome is the line that in the Earth's surface, makes a constant angle with all the meridians. It is a straight line which, when laid on a spherical surface, takes the form of a spiral toward the poles. The first person to realize this was the Portuguese mathematician Pedro Nunes in the 'Tratado em Defensam da Carta de Marear' included in his book O Tratado da Esfera, in \(1537\).
